“To move from the old to what is about to come, is the only tradition worth keeping”

There was a celebratory mood in Copenhagen this week as more than 200 guests gathered to mark the arrival of the newest addition to the SkyTeam family.

Guests including international media, top EuroBonus customers and trade contacts joined leaders from SkyTeam, SAS and our member airlines to celebrate this latest milestone in SAS’s rich history and ongoing evolution – one which reflects the visionary spirit of SAS’s founders: “To move from the old to what is about to come, is the only tradition worth keeping”.

Anko van der Werff, SAS President and CEO said: Becoming part of the SkyTeam family marks an exciting new chapter in SAS’s story, and an exciting future for our customers, partners and 10,000+ employees.

“SAS has been future-facing ever since its formation in 1946 and we are proud that this tradition continues through ongoing innovation.

“We are delighted to be part of SkyTeam and are looking forward to working together to deliver a more seamless experience for travelers, and to make the meaningful change our industry needs.”

SAS has been Scandinavia’s leading airline since its formation in 1946. Operating from its principal hub at Copenhagen Airport, complemented by hubs in Oslo (OSL) and Stockholm (ARN), its mission is to connect Scandinavia with the world and the world with Scandinavia.

The flag carrier of Scandinavia officially became a part of SkyTeam on 1 September, at the same time becoming the newest member of SkyTeam Cargo – the world’s only global air cargo alliance.

The airline serves more than 25 million passengers every year and transports 55 tons of cargo annually to 135 destinations across Europe, the USA, and Asia.

As well as enriching the alliance with the best access to the key Scandinavian hubs of Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Oslo, SAS’s arrival has also made SkyTeam the only airline alliance to serve both the southernmost and northernmost commercial airports in the world: Ushuaia in Argentina, which is served by SkyTeam’s existing member, Aerolíneas Argentinas, and Svalbard in Norway.

Andrés Conesa, SkyTeam Chairman, said: “SAS’s focus to make life easier by making time matter to travelers, to employees and to the planet aligns perfectly with SkyTeam’s dedication to powering the most seamless customer journey of any global alliance.

“Together, we share a vision to deliver a more integrated, responsible travel experience and we are excited that SAS’s arrival is already providing travelers with a smooth experience to more destinations, including key Scandinavian hubs.”

SkyTeam CEO, Patrick Roux, also commented: “At SkyTeam, our goal is to be the most integrated and seamless alliance, fostering strong collaboration that consistently delivers exceptional value to our customers, employees, and member airlines. We believe in the power of teamwork to create a smooth and cohesive travel experience.

We are honored to welcome SAS as a new member, and we look forward to supporting their journey toward future success while strengthening the bonds across our global network.”
