SkyTeam is forging air+rail partnerships to provide today’s customers with greater travel choices

SkyTeam is developing strategic relationships with rail companies to meet the increasing demands of travelers and governments pressing aviation to provide more sustainable journeys. These partnerships will be foundational to the overall SkyTeam multimodality strategy which is under development with member airlines.

SkyTeam’s Director Multimodal Strategy and Platforms Winston D’Souza said, “A customer’s journey doesn’t stop or start at the airport. For short-haul connections and traveling to and from city centers, for example, taking a train can add the integrated convenience and sustainability travelers are looking for.”

Multiple rail companies are on the radar for SkyTeam’s multimodal approach, with the initial focus on Europe, followed closely by East Asia. Partnership options up for consideration over the longer term include long-distance buses, ferry companies and modes of first-mile, last-mile transportation.
