In November 2023, Virgin Atlantic’s Flight100 became the world’s first 100% SAF-powered transatlantic flight by a commercial airline. Taking off from London Heathrow to New York JFK, the flight pushed the boundaries of SAF use (currently limited to a 50% blend in all engines) and marked a significant milestone on the path to decarbonizing aviation.

It successfully demonstrated the capability of 100% SAF as a complete replacement and safe alternative to traditional jet fuel, while still being compatible with today’s engines, airframe and fuel infrastructure.
