SkyTeam technology makes flight status information more seamless

New FLIFO functionality gives airlines and customers the real-time information they need when flights don’t operate as expected
Date 27 June 2022

SkyTeam member airlines offer 30 million codeshare or multi-carrier flights every year. Yet until now, airlines have had very limited ability to receive operational flight information from their codeshare partners.

When fully implemented, the new flight information functionality, powered by the Digital Spine, will allow member airlines to inform customers of real-time flight status for all flights in their digital channels.

By taking advantage of the new capability, Air France and KLM will soon receive a continuous data feed from SkyTeam enabling them to share real-time information for flights operated by other SkyTeam members.

The development has been enabled through SkyTeam’s partnership with OAG, the leading global airline digital data provider. OAG collects information from airports and airlines and sends it to SkyTeam, which then processes this data to send to the marketing airlines.

China Eastern is preparing to implement the same functionality – and in the coming months, SkyTeam will work to ensure all members receive codeshare flight status information for their partners.

The result? Customers benefit from seamless and contactless access to information about their codeshare flights. They can manage their time better and be less likely to miss a flight connection. With real-time information about their flight status, including gate numbers and estimated flight departure and arrival times, travel is more seamless. And airlines benefit from improved operations and cost savings.
