Could you reduce CO2 emissions of a flight by 4.4% and achieve operational improvements of 15%?

Participants in SkyTeam’s Sustainable Flight Challenge can – and they did – thanks to a fantastic effort and more than 700 innovations that could ultimately transform the future face of air travel.

The Sustainable Flight Challenge took place from 1-14 May when 16 airlines pulled out all the stops to maximize the sustainability of a medium or long-haul flight within their normal route network.

More than 1,500 members of staff got involved in helping to make flights cleaner and greener at every single step – from check-in through to baggage reclaim.

Participants joined together at the Sustainable Flight Challenge Showcase in Amsterdam, from 31 August to 1 September to share and celebrate their achievements. They kicked off a series of knowledge-sharing workshops, which will run through December.

This will be supported by a knowledge-sharing platform, created in partnership with Planbox, where airlines can document their innovative solutions and review and comment on each other’s achievements.

Certificates have been gifted to all those who contributed to the success of the Sustainable Flight Challenge, and a mini-documentary is ready for viewing when you click here.
